TOP 3 skin products.

Am I the only one who hates the feeling of make up on my skin? I feel the best and most confident when I feel natural and fresh. The key is to cleanse, tone and use an spf day cream before using any make up products...as we all know, our skin is effected by the sun and pollution. So, after much investigation, here are my three top make up picks for skin coverage.

1. Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer
This stuff has an spf and it goes on as a moisturizer and does not feel like you have any make up on. Its great for days when I wear no other make up...I just curl my lashes and wear a dab of this product under the eyes...and it feels lovely.

2. Dior Longwearing moisturizing concealer
For any under eye darkness...i.e. the morning after a rock concert:)...this stuff is like a miracle. Its moisturizing so it does not crease or feel like make up...you wont even notice if after you put it on.

3. Urban Decay Mineral Make Up
My friend Mariana recomended this to me and I have never looked back. Its excellent if you are going out to an event and you want your skin to look completely flawless and a natural glow. Once again, its does not look like make up, it looks like beautiful skin...enough said.

Why we love Chanel.

Even if you dont care at all about fashion, you have heard of Chanel. Why? because the house has been around since 1913 and the brand keeps getting better and better. Chanel changed the way women dressed over the last century. I recently watched her biography and was amazed to see how she came from humble beginnings. She understood the type of clothes women needed at very pivotal times in history and her ideas were a launching pad for many other designers. Since she passed in 1971, the house was taken over by Philipppe Guiborge and in 1983, Karl Lagerfield became the artistic director and remains so to this day.
Here are some gorgeous dresses from the spring collection. I love the tatoo's they gave the girls on their legs...an interesting touch. My favourite is the classic white dress above.

The Beatles baby...Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney (Paul McCartneys daughter) is one of my favourite designers. There is always such a light-hearted ease to her clothes. Her shows always have an upbeat, free spirited energy and the girls in the show are actually smiling...what a breath of fresh air. Here are some key pieces for spring that I adore.

Moises De La Renta

Oscar de la Renta is one of the most classic designers in our century and he has revolutionized the red carpet with his stunning gowns. He made an appearance in Toronto earlier this week previewing his new collection for a charity fund raiser.

His Son Moises has followed in his father's footsteps and launched his own t-shirt line. Oscars inspiration is definitely intertwined through the pieces but Moises has made his own mark by mixing in a young street edge to the designs. I love the melding of both worlds...the classic with street fashion. At 25 years old, he's off to a great start by partnering with Mango and getting his art out there to the masses. I think that's what this generation is all about, looking to the past to then create something new for the future.

Stupid is as Stupid does.

I keep seeing these Diesel ads and I just need to get something off my chest. I personally am not all that into the Diesel brand...its not that I don't like it, its just not my first choice...but then I see their latest campaign on bill boards when I'm driving around Toronto...with their cheeky phrase "Be Stupid".

I don't mean to be a hater...honest...I am the last person to flat out not like an ad...but come on people! "Be Stupid"???... as if there are not enough little girls out there running around being "stupid" and having to suffer the consequences of their "stupidity"... like out of all the things this huge clothing brand could put out into the public as a message about their company, the best thing they came up with is "Be Stupid". Come on Diesel, you can do better then that!

In these ads "Being Stupid" is being compared to being creative, adventurous, fun, really living life...etc...etc... but the last time I checked the most creative, fun, alive, adventurous people were anything but stupid... we should be encouraging people to do something positive. For sure life should be fun and create amazing memories... but I have traveled all over the world and met tons of young girls at shows who had lived "stupid" and now are dealing with addictions, STI's, unwanted pregnancies, abusive boyfriends...etc...and theres nothing cute or cool about looking into a young girls eyes who is completely broken.

People, stupid is stupid... i choose to live life on purpose and lift people up and inspire others to do the same. Life is too short to live stupid.

The power of the Arts.

The press may move on, but the people of Haiti still hurt. Many of us will never understand the devastation of the Haiti earth quake, but here are some photographers who have captured images that tell the story.

I was also very touched by the "Young Artists for Haiti video"...where a group of artists came together to record "Waving Flag" as a tribute to the people of Haiti.

The power of the arts is astounding and I really believe that all of us artists have a strong voice that we can used to inspire people to do good. Regardless of the art form, whether design, fine art, dramatic arts, dance, music... art touches people in a way that is beyond us. We are created to create.

Lighten up!

Sometimes in life the most appropriate thing to do is stop the car & go frolic on the beach. Life can go by in a blur but every once in a while, there are those moments when all you want to do is laugh...just because.

Happy Monday.

More than a pretty face.

Not only is Daria Werbowy a stunningly beautiful Canadian Supermodel (You've seen her for Lancome, Dior, Prada, Gucci, Longchamp, Cavalli & the list continues...) however she also happens to be an artist. This is the first painting she ever made public as a donation to a silent auction for charity last spring. I've always appreciated her sense of personal style. She has an easy going attitude and never looks over done.

“I wouldn’t call myself an artist, but I draw.” - Daria Werbowy

Logo Power.

Logos are a huge part of the world we live in. Symbols communicate so much information without using any words. This blog is to honor the designers who created these powerful logos we now recognize on a mere glimpse.

Frank Mason Robinson (Designed in 1885!)

The famous Coca-Cola logo was created by John Pemberton’s bookkeeper, Frank Mason Robinson, in 1885.

Coco Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)

The Chanel logo was designed in 1925 by Coco Chanel herself and remains the same to this day. The simple overlapping double ‘C’ - one facing forward and the other facing backward.

Milton Glaser (Born 1929, New York, USA)

This classic logo became the most frequently imitated logo design in human history.

Paul Rand (Born 1914, New York, USA. Died 1996)

IBM is one of Paul Rand's famous designs.

Carolyn Davidson (Design Student, 1971)

The Nike "Swoosh" was designed in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. She did some freelance work for a new athletic shoe company called Blue Ribbon Sports, which later became Nike. She was paid $35 for her design. Bummer!

True Beauty of the North

Hello All. This is my first blog ever. I decided to start a blog because I am always traveling and being inspired by the people and places I experience so I thought it only fitting to share the love with you all. So here we go....Blog numero uno.

I am writing from Beautiful BC...I am surrounded by postcard like mountains and we are in the middle of a music tour for my husband's new CD "The Chase". (www.manafest.net) Touring is full of long drives and late nights and I finally have a few minutes to myself to write some thoughts. This tour started up in Whitehorse, Yukon...and what I experienced there was something I will never forget. The people were beautiful...the scenery was breath taking and I now have even more of a love of fashion influenced by our First Nations people. Here is an arial shot I took of the Arctic from a tiny plane, an old photo I found and some earthy fringe items I love for all year round...
