Vision City Presents: Nevahurd

ok...ok...don't shoot me. I know its been a while since my last blog but I've been...well....lets just say ... busy. I will explain later:) But today I am so excited to present you with the an artist I have had the privilege to work with over the last several months. Nevahurd is a Toronto based Hip Hop artist. Even though I have not met him yet in person....lol.... just by working with him over the phone and email, I can tell he has a strong sense of vision with his music. Not to mention... he is hilarious! I literally laugh out loud when he sends an email:) Its nice to meet a hip hop artist who is so light hearted... :) He contacted me several months ago to work on his CD packaging and I was all about it. His title "Unseen Proof" ties in the idea that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of the unseen".... which I completely know to be true. When you have faith, you take a step that may otherwise not make sense. Faith is believing that all things are possible... even when the facts in front of you scream otherwise.

Here is the Final Nevahurd packaging. I am very happy with how it turned out and it was an honour to work with Nevahurd.... oh and by the way, his real name is Ryan:)

*** His release party is tonight! JUNE 11, 2011 at Agincourt C.O.G. at 95 Nugget Ave. Scarborough, ON. DOORS at 6pm. FREE ADMISSION

Album is officially out JUNE 14
(itunes & Amazon)

Congrats Nevahurd!

Doll Face.

Hello Darlings....
Please allow me to introduce you to my good friend Steph Crofts.
Steph is an absolute doll and such a breath of fresh air to be around. Since the moment I met Steph, I've been laughing.... no joke...lol. In most cases....
I laugh until I cry... :)
She is so much fun to hang with and its been great getting to know her more over the last year. Her hubby Mike plays Guitar for my Hubby Chris (aka Manafest).... so she too has experienced the glamorous and not-so-glamorous life of touring. Oh ya and I almost forgot to mention... Steph is the genius Hair stylist who's work I've featured several times on this blog. So a few weeks ago, when i had the opportunity to do a creative shoot with some friends, Steph jumped in and started working on the hair...little did she know I would convince her to jump in front of the camera as well.... hehe... and so...at about 1 am Steph sat down on an ottoman in front of my camera and these beautiful photos are the result...

Making History...

I flew red eye from LA last night...leaving at midnight and heading home to toronto. While in the air, I suddenly realized at about 1am that the Royal Wedding was about to start on the other side of the world in London...so I quickly grabbed my headphones and turned on the Live TV footage ...watching history unfold before my eyes. I mean, here I am 30,000 feet in the air watching real time as the future King and Queen get married! Wow, I love technology...
I felt like a fly on the wall of a beautiful world changing event, taking it all in...
What many people may not realize is that Will and Kate's wedding is more then just another wedding. It effects the entire culture of the UK, it effects politics, the economy....umm hello! their faces will end up on our money! lol. oh and of course lets not forget Fashion! I assure you women all over the world will want to emulate Kate's look for their own weddings. Speaking of which...at first I was unsure if I liked her dress but the more I watched, the more I realized it was a perfect choice. She reminded me of Grace Kelly on her wedding day...classic, regal and completely feminine. She looked like Royalty, which is the whole idea of course...but still young and modern. The dress was designed by Sara Burton of the Alexander McQueen Fashion House
Brilliant.
Seeing as we're on the fashion topic...ummm... the Brits are serious about their hats eh? omg!
but hey... what do us westerners expect....? the Royals are not going to change their customs to suit the "modern world"... plus.... they added tons of whimsy to an otherwise intense and nerve racking event... they were the comic relief! ha. Gotta love it.
For me though, the best part of the wedding was that these two people are actually in love. It radiates from them... what a breath of fresh air.
Now I know, photos and videos are everywhere showcasing the wedding, but well... I had to! this is truly and event of the century.
Congrats to William and Kate!

the eye of the beholder...

Question....
is it me, or do you ever feel like people are trying to spoon feed you with what they consider to be the thing of the moment...whether it be fashion, art, music...? I felt that way this morning while driving downtown, listening to the radio. Then I realized something... there is a huge difference between Design & Art. Design creatively meets some kind of need in society....while Art on the other hand, is all about what the artist wants to create for their own personal reasons, regardless of what people think. Designers want their designs to be embraced and used... Artists may want that too but as the saying goes "Art is what you can get away with". Thats why artists tend to be the ones in society who are controversial... well...because they can:) For me, the artists I am drawn to are a combination of both.... they explore their own creativity, while having an awareness of the world around them and how their art will effect people. They realize that art is a gift and it holds the power to inspire. I guess my point is, we are Not spoon fed, we are free to choose what we want to embrace as our own. We are the beholder, but we are also the artist. We choose what we will receive and what we will send out into the world.
Kinda deep for a Monday right? ....but hey, thats whats on my mind:) xo.

Wanderlust 2011

Hello Darlings...
Well today I am excited to share with you a beautiful evening I experienced last night with some great friends. I was honoured when Vision City received a personal invite to attend this years "Wanderlust", hosted at the Arcadian Court in the Simpson Tower in Toronto.
The invite was to attend the event as "Media", so I called up some close friends who also write blogs and off we went to an enchanted evening of Fashion.
We were greeted with "media passes" and told there were swag bags waiting on our seats at the front Row.... um....nice! Who doesn't love swag! and the front row was a nice touch! the bags were filled with goodies like Marc Anthony dry shampoo, Clinic Cream....coupons... lots of goodies:) The room was set up beautifully with gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful lighting.
There was a women's wear collection, followed by men's wear. There were many great pieces, but here were some of my fav's, along with other fun shots from the night.
Todays Blog is a tribute to all the Ryerson Fashion Students who were showcased in this event. It take a lot of courage to send your art down a runway and have people respond to it. In fact, every great artist needs courage to create.
Enjoy! xo

Moth Love.

I just caught the results of Project Runway Season 8.... (forgive me if this has been announced a while back.... Im resurfacing from a tour with the guys:) lol...
Anyways....moving right along .... So I am really impressed with the Designer who took the title this season, Gretchen Jones. I totally relate to the vibe of her clothing. They feel boho, edgy, 70's... pretty much all the things I love. The feeling of the clothes are effortless .... who doesn't want to feel that way? I know I do. Sign my up! Here are some shots from her winning show, her campaign and also some pics from her clothing line called Moth Love. oh ya....and I love the play on lighting and shadows in her campaign shots.... it makes the girl look like she's floating...simple, yet amazing;) xo.
